Two students injured following fight with a knife at Omaha Central High School

Shooting arrest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two students were cut during a fight at Omaha Central High School on Thursday, according to the Omaha Police Department.

Just after 9 a.m., a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy got into an altercation in the hallway.

During the fight, OPD said the 15-year-old pulled out a knife and cut the victim.

Medics with the Omaha Fire Department took the victim to CUMC-University Campus for treatment of a minor injury, according to the police department.

The suspect was also wounded during the fight and was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center.

In a letter sent to Central High staff and families, Principal Dionne Kirksey said the school resource officer and other staff de-escalated the situation.

The fight was under control quickly, without the need to place the school in “hold” or “secure,” according to Kirksey.

Kirksey said they will continue to work with the families of the students involved, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

“This message is being shared to ensure open communication with our families,” Kirksey said in the letter. “The safety of students and staff is our top priority. We appreciate your continued help in guiding our students in the use of good judgement in their actions for their safety and the safety of others.”

Charges are pending, and the suspect will be booked upon release from the hospital, according to OPD.

The investigation is ongoing.
