LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska Athletics) – Rudy Sautron stormed to a share of the individual title with a final-round 64 (-7) to help lead the Nebraska men’s golf team to its first title in more than a decade by winning the Git-R-Done Invitational with a school-record 54-hole total of 823 (-29) at Firethorn Golf Club on Tuesday.

Sautron (Reunion Island, France) matched the best single-round total by a junior in school history, just one shot shy of his overall school-record 63 that he shot last season at the Steelwood Collegiate. Sautron birdied No. 16 and No. 18 to match Kansas State’s Alex Lindstrom for a share of medalist honors with a school-record three-round total of 200 (-13) on the 7,102-yard layout at Firethorn. It was Sautron’s second individual title as a Husker, joining his win at the Gopher Invitational to open his Nebraska career at the start of the 2024-25 season.

The previous school record for 54-hole score was 203, shared by Harry Crockett (2023-24) and Brady Schnell (2005-06).

True freshman Caden Mickelson added a record-setting performance of his own by finishing third at 201 (-12), including a final-round 67 (-4). Mickelson opened the tournament with a 66 (-5) and 68 (-3) on Monday. His three-round total shattered the previous Husker freshman record set by Brodie Cunningham with a 209 (-7) a year ago.

Cunningham added a top-15 finish by tying for 12th with a three-round total of 212 (-1), while Evan McDermott put four Huskers in the top 15 by tying for 15th at even-par 213.

Sophomore Jackson Benge rounded out Nebraska’s five-player lineup in a tie for 26th at 216 (+3), including even-par scores of 71 in both the first and third rounds.

As a team, Nebraska used a final-round 274 (-10) to pull away from the runners up from Kansas State. The Wildcats closed at 840 (-12), including a final-round 279 (-5). Iowa State finished third at 842 (-10).

Nebraska’s tournament title was its first since winning the Fairway Club Invitational at ArborLinks (Sept. 10-11, 2012) to open the 2012-13 season.

The Huskers will enjoy their first break of the fall season before returning to action at the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. (Oct. 13-14).
