State patrol bomb squad, National Guard handle four grenades found in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad and the National Guard disposed of four grenades found at a home in Lincoln on Tuesday morning.

According to the state patrol, a Lincoln resident found the old hand grenades among the belongings of an elderly family member.

X-Ray technology determined that two of the grenades were suspected to be live and two were inert.

All four grenades were taken to another site and safely destroyed, according to the state patrol.

“The family member did the exact right thing in this case,” said Sgt. Clayton Dishong, Commander of the NSP Bomb Squad. “If you ever find a potential explosive device, leave it where it is and call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to move the item and let professional hazardous device technicians safely remove it.”

The bomb squad and the National Guard respond to dozens of situations each year in which someone finds a potential explosive device while cleaning out the belongings of a loved one.
