‘It’s just bittersweet’: Long-time Husker volleyball fan will miss playoffs due to Devaney reseating
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Jody Cameron has been a Husker fan for a long time. How long, you might ask? Well, she’s been a season ticket holder for 31 years and never missed a home match.
That’s all going to change this Friday, when No. 1 Nebraska hosts Long Island in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
“It’s just bittersweet,” Cameron said. “I know the university has to capitalize on such a hot and successful team. NIL has changed everything.”
Cameron and her friends have been attending every home volleyball game over the past three decades.
But, back in May, the university announced they’d be doing a full reseating for the 2026 season.
It’s the first time it’s ever been done in the program’s history.
Cameron still renewed her season tickets because of her love for the Huskers. But it used to be an almost guarantee that she would land playoff tickets as well.
That wasn’t the case this season.
“We kind of made peace with ‘ok, the landscape is changing,'” Cameron said. “But, then not getting playoff tickets…it was like, ‘ok, we’ve paid our money, supported the team all year, and now we can’t go to the playoffs.'”
The university announced they’d be doing reseating for the NCAA tournament, increasing the donations and giving out tickets based on a points system.
The more money you donate, the greater your chance of obtaining a seat.
However, for Jody and her friends, it still wasn’t a guarantee even if they paid the difference.
That’s her primary concern, citing that it may be more difficult for the average fan to attend moving forward.
“A lot of people are like, ‘Well, you’ve had them too long, and it’s time for new people,'” she said. “In essence, I wish that’s what was going to happen, but in my opinion, the average fan is still not gonna be able to get a ticket.”
Jody said she is extremely blessed to be a fan and to have supported the team all these years, and can’t wait to be back in the Devaney Center next season.
On the bright side, she might not have seen the Huskers one final time in person this season. Jody has final four tickets. If Nebraska is there, she will be too.
According to the university’s timeline, the reseating process will officially be complete by June-July of 2026.
