SheSports: The New NIL app helping young female athletes thrive

GRETNA, Neb. (KLKN) — Lexi Rodriguez knows what it’s like to be a young girl with big dreams and not know where to turn.

“I had a big dream and wanted to work really hard to try and accomplish that,” she said.

Now, the former Husker is making that dream feel a little more achievable.

“I want to try and give the young girls those resources that I didn’t have as much when I was younger,” she said.

Rodriguez and another former Husker launched SheSports.

A new NIL-backed app, allowing female college athletes to earn money by mentoring the next generation of athletes.

“I think when I was younger I would’ve loved to interact with some of my role models that were in college and be able to ask them questions and get the real vulnerability behind the answers, like obviously we see them on TV and you can go to an autograph signing, but actually being able to hear their thoughts about confidence and mental health would’ve been huge for me.”

Through SheSports, younger athletes can connect directly with women they look up to, ask questions and get guidance.

The platform comes at a time when women’s sports, especially volleyball, are surging nationally.

And with the Huskers expected to make a strong run in the NCAA tournament, the mission behind SheSports is getting even more attention.

“Obviously, volleyball is really huge in Nebraska, but I think just specifically women’s sports in Nebraska is put on a pedestal. I think that’s why we wanted to incorporate not only volleyball but other sports on our app as well.”

She said she hopes SheSports will continue to grow into a network of support: one that empowers girls to see themselves as leaders, competitors, and young women with limitless potential.

In a sport built on teamwork, SheSports is proving that lifting others may be the most impactful play of all.

Rodriguez said she wants to help upcoming athletes become the best they can be.

“There’s going to be some failures, there’s going to be people who just doubt you and don’t believe in you, but if you have a dream and you have the work ethic, just go for it.”
