LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Nebraska senator accused of groping a woman earlier this year was recommended for expulsion from the legislature on Saturday.

The Nebraska Legislature’s executive board voted unanimously to recommend that State Sen. Dan McKeon be expelled from his seat in the legislature.

According to a press release from the executive board, the senators “concluded that the decision was necessary in light of a demonstrated pattern of behavior by Senator McKeon and not in response to a single isolated incident.”

“After reviewing the circumstances, the Executive Board concluded that Board members emphasized that the action was taken to protect the integrity of the Nebraska Legislature and to uphold the standards expected of its members,” the release reads.

The recommendation comes days after the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges in the incident that happened on May 29.

The Nebraska State Patrol said a woman reported that McKeon inappropriately touched her during a party at the country club.

He was initially cited on suspicion of public indecency.

The attorney’s office said prosecutors have reviewed the evidence and worked with investigators to “seek additional evidence” since the citation was issued.

The executive board stated that the recommendation “does not constitute a final action.”  Additional proceedings will now “follow in accordance with legislative rules and procedures.”
