Nebraska teacher arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with former student

Shooting arrest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A teacher at Palmyra Junior/Senior High School was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of an inappropriate relationship with a former student.

In a letter sent to District OR-1 families and community members, Superintendent Michael Hart said Cody Prester — a sixth-grade teacher — was immediately removed from all classroom and extracurricular duties.

“The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority,” Hart said in the letter. “While this situation is deeply concerning, it is also important to remember that this is an active investigation, and we must allow the legal process to proceed. For that reason, the district will not be able to share any additional details at this time.”

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will release more details at a press conference on Tuesday morning.

“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate this difficult situation with compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to our students and community,” Hart said.

Families or students with additional information regarding this case are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 402-441-6500. The full letter can be found here.
