Hundreds packing in Parrish Studios to paint new indoor mural, leaving their mark on Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Hundreds of people got the chance to make a lasting impact on Sunday.
In downtown Lincoln, Parrish Studios revealed a new indoor mural.
The studio invited everyone to pick up a paint brush and add to the mural.
“It is a portal into artsy downtown Lincoln,” said Cinnamon Dokken, the manager of Parrish Studios. “It’s representing the way that imagination and creativity elevate us into a different space that is a better world that we imagine.”
Artists Sophia Baker and Satori Maaske designed the paint-by-numbers style mural, as a chance to showcase the amazing things created in the neighborhood.
Several surrounding businesses joined in, offering a fun way to come together.
“Welcoming people into that experience, kind of the build a bigger table, bring everyone in, make them feel at home at Parrish as the studio artists do, that’s something that’s a larger community goal for us,” said Dokken. “These are tough times, challenging times nationally. So locally, what we can do is come together in this way around something that makes us feel really great.”
The room filled up fast, with a line that went out the door of excited families.
And organizers say as long as Parrish Studios stands, the artwork, light and smiles of many will be around.
“I had no idea that we would have so many people,” said Dokken. “I’m so thrilled that people are interested and want to be a part of what we’re doing here. I’m also so grateful that they are patient.”
Going forward, Parrish Studios plans to have a few more adventures to spark community engagement and keep spirits high.
During “Project ‘O’ Street” this spring, the business is hosting ‘The Wizard of O St.’ campaign to give customers a fun chance to discover the local shops.
“What we can achieve together is so much brighter and more colorful than what we can do on our own,” Dokken said.
