Man arrested on suspicion of arson in connection to Washington wildfire
SPOKANE, Wash. (KLKN) — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has announced the arrest of a person suspected of starting the Old Trails Fire.
Aaron Farinacci, 37, is being charged with first-degree arson and being held on a $1 million bond, according to ABC.
The Old Trails Fire is an ongoing wildfire in Spokane. It was first reported Aug. 1.
With the winds of up to 40 miles per hour, the wildfire spread over 3,500 acres. As of today, there is 0% containment reported.
The Old Trails Fire is one of three that ignited on Aug. 1 near Spokane. The three fires are called the Spokane Complex Fire, with all three collectively burning more than 10,000 acres, having 0% containment and destroying at least 700 structures.
According to ABC, Sheriff John Nowels with SCSO said a witness reported seeing a man in the area looking very nervous before seeing smoke after he returned home. Farinacci was found a mile and a half from where the fire was started.
The investigation is ongoing, according to ABC.
