Community holds vigil for Douglas couple

Wednesday night, a small community remembered two of their own.

The small village of Douglas held a vigil for Randal and Annette Grimes.

Police said they found the couple shot to death in their home early Saturday.

Around 100 people turned out to pay their respects to the couple.

Friends who talked to Channel 8 said they were happy to see that support.

“We’re very happy that all the people that showed up that did and they’re all pretty much family,” Doug Clark said.

People at the vigil said they remember playing baseball, riding motorcycles and even shivering in the rain with them while watching their kids play sports.

They said they want Randal and Annette to be remembered as people who were easy to get along with.

“They made everybody friends,” Clark said.  “If people weren’t friends around them, by the time they left, everybody was friends.  That’s just the way they were.  They made everybody happy.”

Since the Grimes’ were motorcycle enthusiasts, friends said it was fitting that their son, Jesse, climbed on his bike and did a burnout as part of the vigil.

Some who spoke at the vigil said no one can change what happened to Randal and Annette, but that from here on out, they can show the family support.
