Following historic season, Nebraska softball being built ‘wall-by-wall’ with revamped roster

LINCOLN, Neb. – After one of the most successful seasons in program history – featuring a school-record 52 wins and an appearance in the Women’s College World Series – Nebraska softball is back on the diamond for its fall schedule.

On Wednesday, Sept 30, tenured head coach Rhonda Revelle met with media at the Hawks Championship Center to discuss what she is hoping to see the Huskers become before February.

Nebraska lost a lot of its production from 2026’s historic team and welcomes in 10 new players to the roster this year.

“We’re just trying to build this thing wall-by-wall, you know, nail-by-nail,” Revelle said. “It’s been a lot of fun. They have a lot of hunger for learning and growth. And, you know, we always talk about the fall that we’re drinking out of a fire hose because there’s so much information, systems being installed.”

Revelle made mention of specific players such as Jesse Farrell and Samantha Bland to really take steps up as leaders this season, with Farrell helping out to guide new pitchers, while Bland manages the infield.

“They’re really just trying to do an overall nice job,” Revelle said. “But I’ll tell you, people like Dakota Carter – who has very limited role due to injuries in our program – has been a real leader off the field, as well as Nessa McMillen. And (Alexis Jensen) understands the role that she’s stepping in to. She had a big and impactful role as a freshman last year.”

The Huskers started out the fall slate with a doubleheader sweep of Kansas this past Saturday, and will next be in action Sunday for another doubleheader against Omaha at Bowlin Stadium.
