Woman gets probation, jail time for crash that killed son of Lincoln firefighter

A Madison woman was given a short jail sentence and probation after being found guilty of motor vehicle homicide in a crash that left the son of a Lincoln firefighter dead.

Court documents show Daisy Gonzalez, 19, was sentenced to five days in jail and one year probation for the misdemeanor charge.

According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, Gonzalez struck nearly head-on a motorcycle being driven by Joshua Gasper, the son of a Lincoln Fire and Rescue firefighter.

Gasper was flown by medical helicopter to the Creighton University Trauma Center in Omaha, where he received more than 70 units of blood before he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Gonzalez’s probation requires her to refrain from any unlawful conduct and abstain from alcohol and drugs.

The judge also ordered her to write a letter of apology to Gasper’s parents, which would be shared with the family if approved by her probation officer.

Her jail term is scheduled to begin in August.
