Judiciary Committee hearing on a bill to ban conversion therapy

Close to 100 people gathered and dozens testified at the state capitol building to decide whether conversion therapy should be banned.

Senator Megan Hunt of Omaha introduced LB167 on the floor of Warner Chamber on Thursday.

The bill was introduced around 6:00 at night, and people testified in favor of it for close to two hours.

Professors, doctors, therapists, psychologists, members of the LGTBQ+ community, and even people who tried conversion therapy all sat in front of the Judiciary Committee and made their case.

There were around 20 opponents who testified, including lawyers, youth pastors, and people who had a positive experience at conversion therapy.

The hearing ended just after 9:00 p.m. but nothing was decided yet.
