Corrections officer’s relationship with convicted murderer putting staff in ‘potentially dangerous situation’

Inappropriate email exchanges between a corrections worker and an inmate are putting prison staff in possible danger, according to court documents.
On January 18th, Andrea Gassman, 23, was booked into Lancaster County Jail, after being arrested for unlawful acts by a corrections employee — a class four felony.
Gassman, who is listed as a Corrections Corporal, created a fake email account to email an inmate, according to court documents.
The inmate, Bryton Gibbs, 24, is currently serving a 100-year sentence at the Nebraska State Penitentiary for second-degree murder for his role in the 2010 homicide of Christopher Taylor, a pizza delivery driver in Omaha.
Gassman allegedly used the account to email Gibbs beginning on January 9.
The two started an inappropriate relationship, and discussed having sexual relations with each other, including having children and starting a family, according to court documents.
Since January 9, 15 emails were exchanged between the two, according to the documents.
In an arrest affidavit for Gassman, authorities said they believe the email exchanges placed Gassman and all other staff members in a “potentially dangerous situation.”
Gassman filed a $5,000 bond on January 22, according to court documents.
She is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
