One killed, one arrested following shooting in Ashland neighborhood, the sheriff’s office says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Multiple agencies responded to a Homicide in Ashland on Thursday night.

Just after 4:30 p.m., the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting at a home near 17th and Dawes streets.

After negotiating on the phone with the caller and the suspect, the sheriff’s office said the suspect came outside unarmed and was arrested by Ashland Police officers.

The suspect, 31-year-old Robert Haswell Jr., was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Authorities identified the victim as 67-year-old Robert Haswell Sr.

The sheriff’s office said he suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Channel 8 reporter on the scene said the Ashland Police Department, the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol were all on the scene.
