Lincoln looking at an electric scooter pilot program

A couple of years ago Citi bikes became popular all over the country. Just last year, Lincoln got some downtown.
Now, the city is proposing a pilot program to bring electric scooters to Lincoln.
“I think it would get a decent amount of use probably from younger kids because they would probably think it’s pretty cool,” Sara McGill, a student at UNL, said.
McGill thinks the scooters would get the most use on campus during extreme temperatures.
“I think it’s a good idea, especially in the cold weather. It’s probably beneficial because we could get to class a lot faster,” McGill said.
Many cities already give you the opportunity to rent a scooter and ride around… like in Arkansas, where one UNL student use to attend college. She said they were a big hit.
“I know they were very widely used because I lot of people don’t have cars, and it’s an easy way to get to class,” Delaney Saucier, a student at UNL, said.
The scooters wouldn’t have a specific place to rent or return them to. It is a dockless system.
Saucier said they were dockless in Arkansas as well, and it worked out great.
“Usually people would leave them at doors entrances and exits, so there was usually always some available,” Saucier said.
The pilot program will hopefully be heard by city council within the next few months.
