Across the nation, consumers scammed by fishing supply company

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) released a warning for consumers across the nation. According to their report, victims from 49 states, and three Canadian provinces have claimed to be targeted by an online company.

The company is identified as Fishing Care Packages, based out of Stuart, Fla. selling fishing rods, reels, lures, and other fishing supplies.

The complaints were mainly regarding delivery; consumers were sent incorrect items or received no delivery at all. Following complaints, buyers were denied refunds. Since 2017, over 1,500 consumers filed complaints or scam reports with BBB. Of these complaints, 84 percent went unanswered by Fishing Care Packages.

A customer in Kentucky reported they, “Never received product nor refund. Cannot reach the company.”

This customer said their original order, costing just under 50 dollars, was submitted and confirmed in early April. Yet, to date, the customer has not received a refund or response for the company.

According to the company’s website, they are a “’Mystery’ based company, with a Fishing Care Package you can choose a package of your choice without the beforehand knowledge of what you will receive. You will get a random selection of fishing tackle items related to the species or type of fishing you chose.”

The company has not responded to BBB’s inquiries or for an explanation of their business practices.

BBB also reports legal action being taken against the company in February. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and her office entered into an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance against Fishing Care Package and its owner for deceptive and unfair trade practices.
