Affidavit: Lincoln man grabbed child by the neck and slammed him on concrete

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was charged Friday with grabbing a child by the neck and slamming him on the ground.
Kevin Reed, 41, is charged with child abuse, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
On Feb. 27, just before 7:30 p.m., officers were sent to a house near Northwest 48th and West Adams streets on the report of a disturbance.
The caller said two minors were yelling at Reed, who was trying to get them in a car to leave the home.
According to the affidavit, the two minors ran to a neighbor’s house to use the phone to call police.
One of the kids told police that they knew who Reed was and that he grabbed one of them by the neck and slammed him on the concrete, the affidavit says.
The two kids got in a car with their mother and left the scene.
When officers arrived, they didn’t know if Reed was in the house or if he had left the scene.
According to the affidavit, officers were able to call the kids’ mother and set up a time to meet at the Dollar General near First Street and Cornhusker Highway.
The mother said one of the kids and Reed got into an argument because the child was heard cursing, the affidavit says.
According to the affidavit, the mother said the argument was solely verbal, but the child said Reed grabbed his neck, causing pain but not hindering his ability to breath.
He also said Reed slapped his wrist at some point.
Officers saw redness on the right side of the child’s neck and on top of his hand.
After the interview with the child, the mother told officers they could search the home for Reed, as she was unsure of his location.
When they got back to the house, officers said the house was very cluttered, with many areas a person could hide.
While searching the house, officers said they found numerous bags of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a rifle and a .22-caliber handgun.
But they didn’t find Reed.
On Thursday, an officer saw him driving by the home and arrested him.
Reed was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on his active warrants and the three charges.
