Airline closing maintenance hangar in Lincoln, cutting about 100 jobs
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — An airline is closing its hangar at the Lincoln Airport, resulting in the loss of about 100 jobs.
In a statement Wednesday, CommuteAir told Channel 8 that it “has made the difficult decision” to close its maintenance base in Lincoln.
The base, which opened in 2021, will close on July 18, and the hangar will be turned back over to the Lincoln Airport.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate everything the Lincoln team and community have contributed to CommuteAir,” a spokesman said.
CommuteAir, which is a partner of United Airlines, said the affected employees will get priority consideration for jobs at other locations.
The other maintenance bases are in Houston; Washington; Albany, New York; and Knoxville, Tennessee.
“The well-being and retention of our workforce remain a top priority during this transition,” the company said.
