Applications open for ‘rainscaping’ funding for public

Have you ever heard of a 'rain garden' or a 'bioswale'? Even if you haven't--you've definitely seen them

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- The public can now begin applying for water quality landscape funding.

There’s a program called the Rainscaping Lincoln-Sustainable Landscapes Cost Share Program and you’ll be able to apply until April 30th or until their funding runs out.

This program is offered by the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department (LTU) Watershed Management Division.

The program will offer homeowners up to $2,000 to reimburse 50% of eligible expenses for a rain garden or bioswale, a waterwise lawn, or pavement removal. The goal of the program is to improve surface water quality in the region, reduce stormwater runoff into storm drains, and facilitate filtration through the soil to break down pollutants.

Only those properties within City limits will be eligible for the funds and the applicants must own the property. Applications have to be reviewed and approved before property owners begin the projects. The initial costs must be covered by the applicant.

You also have to submit receipts for approved reimbursable items after a final site evaluation scheduled by the applicant.

If you are interested in applying or finding more information, go to lincoln.ne.gov and search “landscape”. For questions about the program, contact Erin Kubicek, LTU Watershed Management, at 402-441-4959 or ekubicek@lincoln.ne.gov.
