Arbor Day Foundation celebrates Christmas with trees and activities

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — As part of their 50-year celebration, the Arbor Day Foundation held an event that celebrated all things trees, but with a holiday twist.

At Tower Square in downtown Lincoln, visitors could walk around the area participating in a variety of events.

Families could meet Santa, decorate ornaments and have a cup of hot chocolate all while celebrating the season of giving.

The goal of Saturday’s event was similar to past ones, to show that trees have a unique way of bringing us together.

Foundation member Brooke Denker said the event promotes togetherness.

“I think that [this] is all about building community,” Denker said. “We’re here to build togetherness.”

The trees that decorated the background of Santa’s chair were all charitable donations.

Denker said the trees are what help create memories for the families.

“Trees are memories, trees are home, trees are community, trees are family,” she said.

Those interested can see the decorations set up in Tower Square until the end of the year.
