‘Biggest deer I’ve ever seen in my life’; Driver hits 600 pound elk

LANCASTER COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) — Around 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 20, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO) responded to a report of a deer and vehicle accident.
LSO deputies responded to the scene on Southwest 84th Street between West Pioneers Boulevard and West Van Dorn Street.
According to Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, the driver said it was the biggest deer she’d ever seen in her life.
When deputies arrived, they realized it was not a deer, but an elk. Houchin said elk are not very common in Lancaster County.
The elk weighed around 600 pounds.
The vehicle was totaled but the driver was uninjured. The elk did not survive the crash.
Nebraska Game and Parks were contacted and took the elk.
