Blizzard closes Interstate 80 in Nebraska west of North Platte
UPDATE: It’s impossible to travel in the Nebraska Panhandle.
Every major road was closed or impassable as of 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Nebraska 511 map.
Interstate 80 is closed west of North Platte, and all roads into Colorado are closed, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
The patrol said on Twitter that there is no truck parking available west of Grand Island, so truckers heading west need to wait.
Other travelers could still find hotel rooms in Gothenburg, Cozad or Lexington as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the patrol.

The National Weather Service in North Platte said 55 mph wind gusts were causing blizzard conditions Tuesday evening.
Several inches of snow may fall in some spots. The heaviest amounts are expected in north-central Nebraska, with 8 inches forecast in Ainsworth and 6.5 expected in Butte.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The wintry storm blinding western Nebraska Tuesday morning is causing all kinds of problems for drivers.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation reports I-80 near Brule is closed along with multiple roadways across the Panhandle due to crashes & conditions.
Officials expect to announce additional closures throughout the day.
They’re urging everyone going through the area to find a safe place to ride out this storm and make sure you’re tracking updates.
Nebraska State Patrol says troopers are also reporting ice covered roads all over the Panhandle.
They’re telling people do not attempt to travel in these blizzard conditions.
