Boone Central knocks out Ashland-Greenwood in second round of playoffs
ASHLAND, Neb. (KLKN) – The Boone Central Cardinals were dominant in their Class C playoff matchup against the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays on Friday.
Boone Central won 41-15.
The game was scoreless for most of the first quarter until Bluejays running back Nathan Upton scored to put Ashland-Greenwood up 7-0.
That score remained the same for the rest of the first quarter.
The storyline flipped in the second quarter as Ashland-Greenwood QB Dane Jacobsen threw an interception into the arms of Kolton Rasmussen, who took the ball into the Bluejays’ 20-yard line.
After a few attempts near the goal line, it was Cardinals QB Alex Christo who found Rasmussen to tie things up 7-7.
Jacobsen tossed his second pick of the night on the following drive, which placed the Cardinals again within the 20.
Christo kept the ball and ran into the endzone, increasing the Cardinals’ lead to 14-7.
After a four-and-out drive, Boone Central marched down the field and scored on a passing touchdown from Christo to Brant Benes right before halftime.
The Cardinals controlled the entire second half on the way to a huge win over a tough Ashland-Greenwood team.
