LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Brendan Jaimes has started 39-consecutive football games at Nebraska. That’s the most in school history by a Husker offensive lineman, trailing only Jeremiah Sirles for most total starts (41).
Jaimes will likely play his final game at Memorial Stadium this Saturday against Minnesota.
“It has been a long 39 games. I’ll say that,” said Jaimes, who started his first game against Rutgers in September of 2017. “Did I see myself starting 39 ever since after that? No, honestly. I came to Nebraska at about 265-270 pounds and to start in the Big Ten as an offensive tackle at that weight is not ideal.
“But I feel like I came from a pretty good high school. I feel like my technique was for the most part there. Obviously, I made freshman error mistakes, but for the most part I feel like I held my own and then every year after that was just continuing to be a better version of myself on and off the field. I think that’s really what helped me become who I am today.”
Jaimes’s impact within the Nebraska pipeline goes far beyond his career starts. He’s helped rebuild the Husker offensive line during his time.
“It’s really just he’s got a standard and his standard is across the board for everyone,” said fellow senior offensive lineman Matt Farniok. “When you don’t live up to that standard, he’s going to let you know, whoever you are. He’s a guy that is obviously a tremendous player. He’s a veteran. He knows what he’s doing. He knows the calls. But he’s also helpful for the younger guys and he helps lead them.
“He also is the guy that if you mess up and you’re doing the wrong thing, he’ll let you know because he doesn’t want anyone to fall underneath the standard that he has for the board. It’s awesome when he’s out there and he’s got a voice and he’s playing the game that he’s really talented at playing.”
