Case advances against Lincoln woman accused of leaving girl in SUV to play skill games

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to leaving a child in her vehicle while she played skill games at a truck stop.
Brittney Clark, 27, waived her preliminary hearing in Lancaster County Court, and the judge sent her case to district court.
Clark is charged with intentional child abuse with no injury and third-degree assault on an officer.

Court documents say Clark went to Shoemaker’s Truck Stop near Southwest 40th and West O streets about 2 a.m. Nov. 26.
She went inside to play skill games and left a 4-year-old girl in her SUV, according to an arrest affidavit.
About 4:30 a.m., police received a report of child neglect and came to the truck stop.
They said they found the girl in the driver’s seat of the SUV. Officers smelled a foul odor and said the 4-year-old had soiled herself.
It was 24 degrees outside, but police said the driver’s side window was partially rolled down and the heater was not running.
The girl’s skin was cold to the cold touch, according to the affidavit.
Staff members said Clark had only exited Shoemaker’s once between her arrival and officers’ arrival.
Police said Clark resisted arrest, biting one officer on the arm and kicking another in the groin.
She is set to be arraigned in Lancaster County District Court on Feb. 12.
