Center for People in Need give out free Thanksgiving Food Items

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Center for People in Need held their annual Thanksgiving food giveaway today at their location near 27th and Cornhusker.

People in need of food had the opportunity to pick up various Thanksgiving meal items like turkey, chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, desserts, and many others Saturday and Sunday as well as today.  The Center planned for around 2,000 to come, a number they knew would be high, but wanted to plan for just incase.  They expect around 1500 people will have come to the Center to partake in the event.

Steve Sheridan, Deputy Director of the Center, explained how important this event is for people and their families during the holidays.

“It’s super important to have families be able to get together and have enough food to feed their families. We didn’t know what to expect just because of the volume with the pandemic. We tried to usher people in a little bit slower than we typically do, but it’s nice to be able to see people come in, be able to get some food to bring home to their families, and have what a normal Thanksgiving might be.”

One thing that separates the Center from other Thanksgiving drives is, they have diapers to give away as well.  This allows families who not only need food, but diapers as well to be able to get both in one stop.
