City of Lincoln issues overnight parking ban in some areas to help clear snow-packed roads
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Lincoln has issued an overnight parking ban on some streets to help crews clear snow and ice.
It will run from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. every morning from Wednesday through Friday.
The ban is for both sides of the street, including metered stalls, in designated snow removal districts. Those areas include:
- Downtown
- University Place
- Havelock
- Bethany
- College View
- 11th and G streets
- 17th and Washington streets
- 25th and Sumner streets
You can see a full map of these designated areas on the city’s website.
Free parking will be available for downtown residents from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily until Friday at Center Park Garage and the Green 2 Garage. You will be charged for any time after or before those hours.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Director Liz Elliott said on Tuesday that crews continue to address icy streets caused by subzero temperatures after two winter storms.
“We are making progress and are already starting to see some de-bonding of ice on portions of arterial streets with the higher temperatures today,” she said in a press release.
Elliott also encouraged residents to request snow removal for your neighborhood on the city’s website.
This comes as Lincoln Public Schools returned to class on Wednesday for the first time in almost a week.
