Cold front brings arctic air to Nebraska later today 12/28/2021

Eastern Nebraska is off to a much warmer start compared to the northwestern half of the state. Arctic air is already building in to the northwest thanks to a low pressure system and cold front that will eventually reach eastern Nebraska later today. For now, temperatures are in the 20s and 30s with wind chill values in the teens for some. Highs will reach the low to mid-40s early this afternoon and then temperatures will drop the rest of the day. Clouds will also clear throughout the day as the colder air builds into the area, but they will return overnight. Usually clouds prevent us from cooling, but tonight temperatures will drop into the low teens! This means wind chill values will be below zero and in the single digits tomorrow morning. We won’t recover during the day tomorrow either, because highs will only reach the upper 20s. A few snow flurries are likely throughout the day tomorrow, but only minor accumulation under an inch is expected. A better chance for snow will arrive this weekend after another cold front moves through Nebraska on Friday. It’s too early to talk about specifics, so make sure to check back with us throughout the week.
