Community donating to family after fatal fire in Kearney
Thursday morning started as any other but quickly became a day Jesse Montgomery and his oldest daughter Hannah would never forget.

KEARNEY, Neb. (KLKN) – A GoFundMe page has been started for the Montgomery family, after the tragic loss of a mother and two toddlers last week in a house fire.
Thursday morning started as any other but quickly became a day Jesse Montgomery and his oldest daughter Hannah would never forget.
“He’s doing as well as he can,” John Howell, a friend of Jesse’s said. “He’s trying to pick up the pieces. He went back to the house today to kind of clean out some stuff that was in there.”
The house was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived just after noon Thursday near E. 33rd and ‘I’ Streets. Authorities found the three inside of the burning home and were rushed to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Jesse and Hannah are now left picking up the pieces, this time without their other halves and without their home.
Friends of the Montgomery family have started a GoFundMe for the family to help them pay for funeral expenses and a new roof to put over their heads. The community has already raised over $25,000 dollars, surpassing their $10,000 dollar goal.
“The community has really stepped up, there is a ton of clothes, a ton of toys,” Howell said. “Some local businesses have set out donation cans to raise money for the Montgomery family.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
