Community quickly rallies after tornado rips through Nebraska feedlot

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Chaotic weather broke out across much of central and eastern Nebraska on Friday, bringing numerous tornadoes.

Serious damage was reported in Dodge County.

Around 6:15 p.m., a tornado hit the area just west of Uehling, which is about 20 miles north of Fremont.

In its path was the Weitzenkamp Feedlot.

The tornado tore apart buildings and cars on the property, and the owners aren’t yet sure what the total damage is.

The tornado killed some cattle as well, though they don’t know how many.

But in the midst of the devastation, dozens of family, friends and even strangers came to the feedlot to help repair the damage.

A couple of those friends said they would work as late on Friday night as they need to.

Semis have come to load up the surviving cattle and take them to safe locations.

As storms still rolled in the distance, one of the owners said she was incredibly grateful for the support they had already received, just hours after the tornado came through.

There were 33 tornado reports in the state on Friday.

In the coming days, the National Weather Service will survey storm damage and determine whether and where tornadoes touched down.
