Cookies and beer: Lincoln pub offers adult pairings to Girl Scout treats
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Since 2019, regulars of Pour Craft Beer & Spirits have looked forward to Girl Scout Cookie sales because they knew they could pair them with a craft beer.
A collaboration between Troop 20556 and the pub led to a unique event that draws a bigger crowd with each passing year.
Pour co-owner Tim Oehlerking said everyone could try the cookies with a craft beer on Saturday before deciding what to buy.
“We paired four craft beers with four specific types of cookie,” he said.
This year’s combination included:
- Caramel deLites and Delirium Red Belgian Fruit Ale
- Adventurefuls and Pour Single Barrel Stout
- Thin Mints and Founders Brewing Co. Porter
- Lemonades and Avery White Rascal Witbier
Oehlerking said the most popular combination was the fruit ale and Caramel deLites.
“The coconut, chocolate and caramel are opposite to the tartness and the fruit flavors of the Belgian beer,” he said.
Like years previous, many showed up an hour before to get a good seat for the celebration.
Troup member Kass Orwig said it was interesting to see so many people show up for the event.
“You get to see a whole lot of people come together,” she said. “They get to have a taste before they purchase them so they know it’s a good purchase.”
Troop leader Cecelia Orwig said a connection between people in the community is how the event got its start five years ago.
“One of the girls in our troop is related to one of the co-owners, and I happened to be his neighbor,” she said.
And that connection, Orwig said, brought success to both parties involved.
