Cooler Start to the Week, Isolated Storm Chances

Temperatures will stay below average for the start of the work week, with periodic chances for showers and an occasional thunderstorm sprinkled into the mix. Otherwise, partly to mostly sunny skies as high temperatures return to the middle 80s by midweek.

Portions of western Nebraska may see impacts from an isolated severe storm or two capable of producing large hail and damaging winds. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in place until 8 p.m. MDT on Sunday, August 23.

Scattered severe storms will be possible for at least some portion of the state tonight through Tuesday evening. Late Tuesday marks our next best chance at severe weather in southeast Nebraska, with a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) in place, signaling isolated storms will be possible.

The latest runs of StormCast continue to show scattered storm chances over the next several days. With storm chances being so isolated in nature, it will be important to stay up to date with the latest forecast!

Temperatures heading into Monday morning will fall to the lower and middle 60s across the state. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected with a light southeasterly wind.

A few showers cannot be ruled out for the Lincoln area early on Monday morning. Best to keep an eye on the radar and have the umbrella ready for the morning commute.

Western Nebraska will see another hot late-summer day for the start of the week, while cooler temperatures continue in eastern Nebraska.

We should see a little bit of sunshine poke through on Monday afternoon in the Capital City. Highs tomorrow will try for the lower 80s, after another cloudy start to the day.

A stagnant pattern of below-average temperatures and occasional disturbances moving through continues for the week ahead. Highs most days will be in the lower and middle 80s. Looking ahead to next weekend, long-term forecasts hint of warmer temperatures, higher humidity and storm chances.
