Crews rescue two cats from fire in Lincoln apartment building

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews battled a blaze Wednesday at an apartment building in the Near South neighborhood.

The fire began in the basement of the building near 17th and Sumner Streets around 12:25 p.m.

No one was inside at the time, according to Battalion Chief Aaron Pospisil.  But crews did rescue two cats.

The fire, which displaced eight residents, was extinguished in about 10 minutes.

LFR Spokeswoman Nancy Crist said the fire was determined to be electrical.  The building had $80,000 in damage.
