Daily COVID-19 cases in Lancaster County hit their highest peak since February

The latest update on our health department's online dashboard is reporting 130 new infections

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department’s online dashboard is reporting 130 daily COVID-19 cases in its latest update.

That’s the most infections our area’s recorded since early February, over 130 days ago.

This comes as new data from Harvard Medical School shows new Omicron subvariants are taking off.

BA.4 and BA.5 caused an estimated 35% of new infections nationwide last week.

Experts say they’re a lot better at evading antibodies than earlier strains.

That means both people who’ve been fully vaccinated and anyone who’s been infected before are more likely to catch COVID-19 moving forward.
