Dangerously cold early; warmer soon looking ahead
Dangerously cold temperatures are expected especially early Tuesday morning.
A Cold Weather Advisory (light blue) is in effect for most of southeastern and southern Nebraska through noon Tuesday. Wind chills 25-30° below zero are possible, meaning frostbite can happen in as little as 30 minutes.
An Extreme Cold Warning (darker blue) is in effect for northern Nebraska including Omaha through noon Tuesday. Wind chills 30-35° below zero are possible, meaning frostbite in as little as 10 minutes in these areas.
Wind chills in eastern Nebraska are expected to be their worst of the cold snap yet. Less time outdoors will be the safe way to go for the first part of the day.
Wind chills will improve a lot by the afternoon, warming something like 30 degrees with positive wind chill values closer to about 1 p.m. Tuesday and beyond.
Afternoon wind chills could be improving some 4o-50 degrees for those in western Nebraska. Wind chills will even be closer to the freezing mark down in McCook and Imperial.
With all this talk of frigid temperatures, spring isn’t that far off!
Wednesday is expected to be warmer yet still windy, with scattered snow showers throughout the day. These will be more prevalent for central and southeast Nebraska toward Wednesday night.
Again, little to no accumulation is going to come from this. There may be a few exceptions that some see up to 1″, but that will not be common. Temperatures toward the weekend will remain closer to almost 40 degrees.
