Doane football adjusting to life in quarantine
"Ever since our school closed down. We've been continuing with our academic meetings with kids on a weekly basis. Every week, the kids are doing workouts. The kids are doing the best that they can."
CRETE, Neb. – Doane football isn’t feeling the effects of COVID-19 any differently than the rest of the country.
Head coach Chris Bessler said in a press conference on Zoom on Wednesday that the Tigers are disappointed that spring practice was completely cancelled. However, Bessler said they are adjusting during this difficult time.
“Ever since this happened,” Bessler said. “Ever since our school closed down. We’ve been continuing with our academic meetings with kids on a weekly basis. Every week, the kids are doing workouts. The kids are doing the best that they can.
“In some cases, kids can’t even do some of the stuff that we send them. We’ve talked to our kids, you know Hey you’ve got to be flexible, you’ve got to think outside the box. Think about your surroundings. Where you can go, your environment and take advantage of what you can.”
Doane opens the 2020 season on Sept. 5.
