A dog that had emergency surgery after being stabbed more than 15 times will soon be up for adoption.

The Nebraska State Patrol said the dog has been named Trooper and he’s “doing great!”

The McCook Humane Society has received “tons of interest” from people wanting to adopt Trooper. Trooper and a pit bull were rescued last week. Authorities later arrested 29-year-old James Wagner for felony animal cruelty.

The waiting period for Trooper and his pit bull pal is up this weekend, the patrol said.
