Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk has confirmed one fatality from the dual tornadoes that struck northeastern Nebraska.

Senior Marketing Specialist Jodi Richey says the hospital was receiving patients, and was treating 16 people at one point from the storm. Some of those hospitalized were realized. One person was transferred to an Omaha hospital, but their condition has not been released. Providence Medical Center in Wayne is also receiving patients, representatives say they’re treating three patients from Pilger, two with lacerations and another with unknown injuries. Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Neb. confirms they have three patients, but nothing critical at this time.

Dual tornadoes were spotted near Stanton and Pilger, Neb. in the northeastern part of the state Monday evening.   Unconfirmed reports indicate that there was significant damage in Pilger and damage was also reported in Stanton.

Meteorologist and storm chaser Tony Laubach saw it all- three tornadoes within miles of each other. He says in his 17 years of chasing storms, he’s never seen anything quite like the violent dual tornadoes that tore through Pilger.

“It’s very very rare to see, and I’ve seen a lot of tornadoes in my career, very few of them I remember having that kind of motion,” Laubach said.

Emergency Management officials are asking people to not drive on Highways 275 and 15, and to stay away from the area.

Governor Dave Heineman will survey the storm damage in the Pilger area Tuesday morning. He has declared a state of emergency and National Guard troops are available.

The National Weather Service in Omaha is also sending out survey teams Tuesday morning to investigate the damage paths of the tornadoes. They say preliminary ratings could be released within the next couple of days.

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.  If you have photos or video of the storm, send it to 8@klkntv.com
