LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A nonprofit government watchdog in Nebraska filed a complaint on Thursday regarding a challenge to the medical marijuana ballot initiatives.

The complaint by Common Cause Nebraska was filed with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission.

It requests an investigation into John Kuehn, the former state senator behind lawsuits seeking to keep the initiatives off the ballot in November.

Common Cause said he failed to disclose expenses related to the challenge.

Executive Director Gavin Geis asked the commission to determine whether Kuehn is required to disclose those expenses.

“Nebraskans deserve to know who’s working to influence our elections,” Geis said. “Allowing special interests or individuals to oppose ballot measures without disclosing their spending undermines our citizen initiative process. If we want to ensure Nebraskans’ voices are heard, we must enforce disclosure laws that show the public who stands against them. If the current law doesn’t cover this, the legislature must strengthen it.”
