Elleinad Books in Lincoln combines cookies and reading for special event

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln bookstore combined Girl Scout cookies and reading for a special event on Saturday.

Elleinad Books, located near 58th Street and Old Cheney Road features weekly store times at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

But since not everyone can make those storytimes, owner Danielle Eby says the store holds special events on the weekend.

“I try to hold different types of special events,” she said. “I started out doing an event once a month, twice a month. It was just kind of a weekend thing we do, but it gives people an opportunity to visit the bookstore that can’t get here during the week.”

Eby partnered with Girl Scouts Troop #28285 on Saturday’s event, which included a special storytime involving three different kinds of cookies.

Mandy Haase-Thomas and Coralee Thomas found the event to be a perfect time to help out their community.

“It’s really nice to just see the community effort around supporting these little entrepreneurs with their cookie sales,” Mandy said.

The two had been customers of Elleinad in the past, so when it came to deciding where to sell cookies it was an easy choice.

“We frequent often, so to have them be open to having our troop here has been really special,” she said.

For the customers of the bookstore, Saturday’s event allowed them to leave with both a good read and a sweet treat to match.
