Extradition for Wisconsin murder suspect pushed back by Nebraska judge once again
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Another extradition hearing was held Thursday for the Wisconsin murder suspect who was arrested after a crash near Lincoln.
Gavin Thompson, 23, will stay in Nebraska for at least a month and a half, as Judge Timothy Phillips pushed back the hearing once again.
Phillips denied the request for a competency evaluation, saying he didn’t want to make Nebraska taxpayers pay for it since the alleged crime happened out of state.
“I’m not going to order a competency evaluation at the state’s expense with regard to what I believe is not a criminal proceeding; it’s a fugitive from justice proceeding,” Phillips said.

Thompson is accused of killing 67-year-old Dorinda Segebrecht and leading Nebraska authorities on a chase that ended in a crash west of Lincoln.
After a four-hour manhunt, Thompson was arrested on July 16 and booked in the Lancaster County Jail.
Segebrecht’s body was found in the back of the car, authorities said.
Thompson is charged in Wisconsin with first-degree intentional homicide, burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon, hiding a corpse and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Officials said the charges filed against him in Nebraska will be dropped when he returns to Wisconsin, though they could be refiled in the future.

By law, Wisconsin officials have 90 days to file a governor’s warrant for extradition. For now, Thompson will remain in the Lancaster County Jail.
Thompson’s next court appearance is set for Sept. 16.
