Fire destroys car near 27th and Pear

Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to a car on fire at 2739 Pear St around 6:00 p.m.

LFR says the fire started outside the home, ignited a vehicle, then spread to the home. Firefighters do not believe the vehicle started the blaze, as it has not run for several years. Crews do not know the exact cause of the fire and are still investigating. Power was shut off to the house and residents were evacuated.

LFR Battalion Chief Derald Murrell believes weather may have played a role in how rapidly the fire spread.

“In this dry weather, you know, people don’t understand that in the dry weather you’ve got to be really careful. Any kind of smoking materials, any kind of thing you’re doing outside, you know, barbecuing, anything,” Murrell said.

Firefighters confirm the car is a total loss.
