First Responders honored at luncheon

Some important people that our community relies on every day, were honored Thursday afternoon.

“Once again, it just exemplifies the partnerships that all of us enjoy and the community support that is the norm in Lincoln, Nebraska,” says Chief Jeff Bliemeister, Lincoln Police Department.

“It’s a grass roots movement and to help kind of support public safety, and we’re honored to be apart of it,” says Chief Micheal Despain, Lincoln Fire and Rescue.

The Lincoln South Rotary club organized the Tribute to First Responders luncheon.

I was honored to be the emcee at this event, where hundreds of notable Lincolnites showed up to honor firefighters, police officers, EMTs and many more.

Many First Responders told me how much this event meant to them.

“It’s kind of a thankless job at times. We see a lot of negative things in the world or we are always responding to tragedy, so when something like this happens it really fills my bucket it makes me feel good inside it makes me remember why I do this job,” says Officer Angela Sands, Lincoln Police Department.

Channel 8 KLKN-TV was honored to be a sponsor of the event.

Multiple officers were honored for their work in solving certain cases.

The Lincoln South Rotary club organized the day and also donated over $8,000 to local charities and Lincoln Crimestoppers.
