‘Focused on the wrong things’: Former state senator announces potential campaign for governor
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lynne Walz said she’s considering running for governor of Nebraska.
Walz plans to stop in multiple cities across the state to talk with Nebraskans before making a final decision on a campaign.
The Fremont native served as a state senator for eight years.
If she runs, she would be the first Democratic candidate in the race. And she would be going up against Gov. Jim Pillen.
Walz said she’s had discussions with people who aren’t happy with the way Nebraska is being run.
“We have been focused on the wrong things, as far as I’m concerned, in the past couple of years,” she said.
She said the most pressing issues include healthcare, education and property taxes.
Channel 8 reached out to Pillen’s campaign team, but they do not have a comment at this time.
Nebraska hasn’t had a Democratic governor in more than 20 years.
The only Democrat to win the race for governor was Ben Nelson. He served as governor from 1991 to 1999.
