Former David City coach convicted of sending sexual texts to student

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A former Nebraska wrestling coach was found guilty Tuesday of sending inappropriate text messages to a student.
Jeremy Andel, 38, pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of attempted child enticement by electronic communication device.
Prosecutors also dropped a count of third-degree sexual abuse by a school employee.

Andel was the girls wrestling coach at David City High School.
Court documents say he sent sexually charged text messages to a 16-year-old girl who was not on the team.
Andel sent over 1,700 texts from September 2023 to May 2024, according to an arrest affidavit.

Investigators with the David City Police Department seized his phone in October and sent it to the Nebraska State Patrol for analysis.
Police received the data back from the patrol in January and arrested Andel in February.
Andel is scheduled to be sentenced in Butler County District Court on Sept. 9.
