Former Huskers look to impress scouts at Pro Day

Cornerback Dicaprio Bootle, running back Dedrick Mills, tight end Jack Stoll, and offensive linemen Matt Farniok and Brendan Jaimes will work out on Tuesday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Five former Huskers will look to impress NFL scouts at Nebraska’s Pro Day on Tuesday at the Hawks Championship Center.

Cornerback Dicaprio Bootle, running back Dedrick Mills, tight end Jack Stoll, and offensive linemen Matt Farniok and Brendan Jaimes will work out on Tuesday.

“Showing that I can improve an NFL team is something that I’m really looking forward to,” Stoll said on Monday. “Really just looking forward to showcasing what I’ve got.”

Stoll limped to finish his career with the Huskers, battling multiple injuries his final season. He hopes to sign a free agent deal, along with Matt Farniok. The former Husker captain is looking toward former Nebraska linemen that have paved out nice NFL careers despite going undrafted.

“Obviously, I’m not going to be walking down the red carpet, I’m going to be sneaking in the back door,” Farniok said. I’m fine with that. I’ve always prided myself on being a hard worker, being tough, finding a way to overcome whatever thing is thrown in front of me. Seeing other guys do it as well? It’s possible. You can do it. You can make a career and have a really good career because of it.”

Mills, Bootle and Jaimes hope to climb draft boards and possibly sneak into the later rounds. Jaimes probably has the best chance. The four-year starter in Lincoln, was the only Husker invited to the Senior Bowl and would have been invited to the NFL Combine as well if it were being held this year.

“I’ve earned my way into this position,” Jaimes said. “Nothing was really handed to me so I just want to show them that I’m going to try and be the hardest working guy on the field no matter what. Just give it my all out there.”

Both Bootle and Mills have been heavily focused on the 40-yard dash in order to impress scouts. Bootle burst onto the recruiting scene before committing to the Huskers when he ran one of the fastest 40 times at a satellite camp.

“I like to say that I ran my way into Nebraska and tomorrow morning, I’ll run my way into the league. Very fast,” Bootle said.

More depends on Mills’ 40-yard time. The bruising back has the tools to make an impact on an NFL roster, but needs to show he has the speed to play the position.

“Every other drill I really don’t care for, I just want to show the scouts that I’ve gotten faster,” Mills said. “That’s my main concern. They knew I can block. They know I’m strong. They know I’m physical. They just want to see if I’ve gotten faster. So I want to show them that I’ve gotten faster and I’m improving and working. I didn’t know there were that many ways and techniques when running so I figured that out when I was training.”
Pro Day begins late Tuesday morning in Lincoln.
