Former LPS mentor sentenced for having more than 4,000 child pornography files

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was sentenced in federal court Monday for possession of child pornography.
Joseph Maciarz Jr., 63, was sentenced to seven years in prison with a 12-year term of supervised release.
He was also ordered to pay $5,100 in special assessments and $24,000 in restitution.
In November 2022, an investigator with the Nebraska State Patrol found child pornography on a file-sharing network.
The IP address that was sharing the files came from Maciarz’s residence.
Police obtained a search warrant and seized numerous electronic devices from his home.
They found more than 4,000 child pornography files, according to law enforcement.
Maciarz, who was a mentor in Lincoln Public Schools at the time, told law enforcement that he had been downloading and uploading child pornography on and off for the last 20 years.
Some of the victims ranged from infants to 9-year-olds.
