Four people relocated after grill fire spreads to south Lincoln home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Fire & Rescue said four people were relocated Thursday morning after a home caught fire in south Lincoln.

The fire was reported around 2:15 a.m. at a home near 14th Street and Old Cheney Road.

LFR Battalion Chief Bob Watton said a grill was on fire at the home a few hours earlier.  The residents thought they had put it out, but the fire rekindled overnight.

The fire then spread to the inside of the home. Watton said an electric box and the basement sustained most of the damage.

When crews arrived, one person was still asleep inside, Watton said.  Firefighters were able to get them to safety.

The home had no smoke alarms, Watton said.

The fire caused $50,000 in damage.
