Officials are close to fixing the problem. Lincoln Police have said that traffic is close to reopening on O street soon.

A gas leak shut down O Street between 33rd and 40th today.

The leak was reported around 2 PM after a drilling company hit a gas line under the sidewalk.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue worked with police to seal off the area so Black Hills Energy could get in and fix their pipe.

"Safety is our highest priority, so our job is to make sure its safe and we can repair it as quickly as possible," said Brandy Johnson, Community Affairs Manager, Black Hills Energy.

Fire and Rescue evacuated local homeowners.
